FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW LONG DOES EACH TREATMENT LAST?

The average treatment ranges from 15 minutes to 1 hour, but can go longer. Timing depends on density of growth, thickness of the hair, reaction of the skin and client sensitivity. On average it takes 18-24months of regular treatments to complete the process and the area be hair free.

DOES ELECTROLYSIS HURT?

A common misconception, there is some sensation and discomfort with treatments, but an experienced electrologist should be able to find a working point where the hair has adequate treatment and the pain threshold is not crossed. This is why consultations are important, to be able to understand where the working point is, and so that the client can get a feel for the sensations of treatments. The first treatment is always the worst, but the more you have the easier it gets.

IS IT SAFE TO HAVE ELECTROLYSIS WHEN PREGNANT OR BREAST FEEDING?

Yes! Thermolysis is a safe modality to use and will have no adverse effects on mother or baby.

WHAT CAUSES UNWANTED HAIR GROWTH?

There are three main times in a woman's life that can trigger unwanted hair growth, at the onset of puberty, pregnancy, and menopause. Genetics and hormones play a lead role in excessive hair growth, and it is so common at certain times of life that it is not considered "abnormal", but it is still a nuisance and unwanted.

Another cause of increased hair growth is an increase of blood supply to an already existing hair follicle. This can be from any trauma to the skin as well as trauma to the follicle which includes waxing, threading, and tweezing a hair.

The most beneficial thing you can do for yourself is stop pulling out the hairs and start electrolysis, shaving in the meantime is permitted as there is no scientific proof that shaving increases hair growth.

PCOS AND ELECTROLYSIS

PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) is a glandular disease that increases the androgen hormones in the body and increases hair growth often creating hirsutism, which is male pattern hair growth in women, and other masculine features.

If you suspect you have PCOS you should discuss this with your doctor and consider androgen blocking medication as this can be helpful in your hair removal experience.

Electrolysis can help conquer your unwanted hair, but be aware that your treatments will be longer than average, and we will have time to become good friends.

If you have PCOS but struggle financially please message me to further discuss some options I can offer you.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE YOUR CPE

I have my Certified Professional Electrologist designation. Like most aesthetics, electrolysis is not government regulated and you do not need any training to practice. The Federation of Canadian Electrolysis Associations is dedicated to bringing you professionalism in electrolysis and created the CPE exam to give the consumer a safe and peer reviewed certification to help distinguish those electrologists who have sought out and continue to seek out education and training in their field. For more information about the FCEA and to find a certified electrologist in your area visit fcea.org
